What should I do if I need to make a claim for flood damage?

1. If you have a Lorega Loss recovery policy, for Commercial property claims in excess of £5,000 Domestic property claims in excess of £2,500 please call 0207469 5555. Lorega will arrange for immediate involvement of a local claims specialist who will visit you to advise on the best approach to your claim. Your specialist will then prepare your claim(s) and negotiate for the best possible settlement to which you are entitled.

2. Contact your insurer as soon as possible. If you are unable to access your policy documents please use the link to the Claims Helpline's or contact this office on 0115 9470043. We will be able to confirm to all our clients their policy number and the helpline number you will need.

3. Your insurers will expect you to take reasonable steps to protect your property. We would therefore recommend that easily moveable objects be taken upstairs and where possible sandbags are used to hold back the water.

4. Make sure all electrical supplies are switched off at the mains and electrical equipment unplugged.

5. Once the waters have receded, you can remove waterlogged or damaged items from the property, such as carpets, but please keep them as the insurers or their representative will probably need to see them to verify your claim.

6. If your home is uninhabitable MOST insurance policies will provide some cover for the cost of alternative accommodation.

7. If your business premises are unusable, alternative accommodation costs are usually covered under a business interruption section of your policy.

8. Motor Vehicles – Those with comprehensive cover should be covered for flood damage. However, this is not the case for third part fire and theft or third party only policies.
If you have comprehensive cover you should contact your insurers immediately.
