Hail insurance

Hazard

A physical or moral feature or aspect of the risk that introduces or increases the possibility of a loss arising from a peril or adversely influences the extent of the loss.

Hazardous pursuits

A term used in personal accident insurance to describe a range of specified activities that are excluded from the standard cover, some of which may be included for extra premium, such as skiing.

Hearing loss

Heat warranty

A term used in public liability insurance to describe a prescriptive policy condition requiring specified action to be taken whenever processes of heat or the use of blowlamps are involved in activities taking place away from the insured's own premises.

Heave

Hold-up

Theft accompanied by actual or threatened assault or violence.

Household insurance

A term that includes buildings and contents cover as well as personal liability, all risks and a variety of extra covers such as horses and ponies, small craft and motor boats, caravans, personal accident and sports equipment. Practice varies among insurers as to whether these are optional extensions or separate policies.

Housekeeping

A term used by fire underwriters and surveyors to encompass the general management, tidiness and cleanliness aspects of a risk.
